Negative iPhone Publicity Continues

Saturday Jul 19, 2008

Everyone knows the 3G iPhone came out last week and that it is pretty much sold out everywhere, but there are a lot of negative posts out there in the blogosphere about the Apple gadget. A lot of users have complained about the lack of a copy and paste feature, that a good percentage of them turned out to be defective and impossible to exchange/return, one AT&T mall kiosk in New Jersey has even been handing out propaganda to customers trying to get them to buy Blackberries instead of iPhones.

And to add insult to injury, those who waited in line for hours and hours who were excited to find out that AT&T would be offering free wi-fi access afterall when it was posted on the AT&T website were mislead once again, because it looks like they changed their minds.

What a mess. Looks like I’m sticking with my AT&T Tilt, it has Windows Mobile, but it’s not Vista :)

Dumb

Tuesday Jul 8, 2008

And this, my fine friends, is why I do not use a Mac. I opened a program on my work computer (MacBook Pro) and it unexpectedly quit. So Crash Reporter comes on to tell me that it’s unexpectedly quit, but right in the middle of it, Crash Reporter quits unexpectedly! Dumb!

Demetrios Leontaris, the New York City “iPod doctor”

Tuesday Jun 24, 2008

Think you know a little bit about ipods? Do what this guy does. We all know how busy New Yorkers are, and spending an hour or two in an Apple store to get their 2 years old iPod fixed probably isn’t realistic. Thats where Demetrios Leontaris, the New York City “iPod doctor”, steps in.

Leontaris isn’t a former iStore employee who decided to start his own gig, and he isn’t an electronics graduate from a technical college. He seems like a normal guy with a decent business sense and steady enough hands to disconnect and reconnect an iPod LCD or hard drive in his Pontiac Aztec.

The NYC Ipod Doctor is capitalizing on the ridiculous amount of money that iPod owners have to pay to get their out of warranty iPods repaired, but I would guess that the price of gas and hassle of putting up with impatient iPod owners who are pissed off about their headsets not working or who can’t figure out why there is a huge crack in their screen after they dropped it 3 stories out a window may be a bit stressful. But nobody said it was going to be easy.

There are four generations of regular ipods along with nanos, shuffles, touches, and iphones. There seem to basically be the following parts for each: batteries, LCD screens, hard drives, headset jacks, motherboards, housings, touchwheels, etc.

So with there really only being 10-15 parts per model and with all of the parts being available on eBay, domestic websites and web sites overseas, this seems like a business that almost anyone could make successful with a little bit of customer service skills, a few bucks to spend, and a Craigslist account.

His company doesn’t only make money from servicing ipods. Sales and trade-ins also generate income, and recycling parts and being extra organized seems to be where he is able to make this business a success.

While it is true that Leontaris’ company now services Macbook, Imacs, and PDA’s on top of MP3 players, it seems like anyone with a bit of common sense and the ability to work with their hands could make this work from the beginning.  His company also seems to benefit from increased exposure after being featured on ABC News, CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, and it would seem as if he knows how to market himself and his company.

Well done Mr Leontaris, but your profit margin might be higher if you make the switch to a Hybrid.

Mac Frustrations

“One of the coolest features of the Mac is that it is really easy to shut down. All you have to do is be using a piece of software and POOF it shuts down!”

Nano?

Sunday Jun 15, 2008

Trivia question for the day. (Don’t cheat and research it online, take an honest stab at it).

What does the word Nano, like used in iPod Nano, actually mean?

A. A prefix meaning one billionth.

B. A spanish word meaning so small I’m bound to lose it in my pocket.

C. A fancy word that Mac made up, because it sounds cool.

D. The German word for bitch, as the iPod Nano is the regular iPod’s bitch.

Please feel free to write your answer in a comment on the blog. If you come up with an even better answer than I came up with, please post that as well.

iPhone

Wednesday Jun 11, 2008

MacRumors.com tells me that the US Patent and Trademark Office has recently published an extensive patent application, seemingly for the 3G iPhone and software version 2.0, both now expected to be released next Monday. Of 3G’s many new features, there will be IM and blogging applications, Video Conferencing (with front-facing camera), and, sources say, lubricated edges so that it can be more easily shoved up Microsoft’s ass.

When I was 10…

Thursday May 22, 2008

Last night I went to my little cousins birthday party. Now, when I was ten a cool gift was a sweet bathroom toy and if you were really lucky Mom would get you a nerf gun. My little cousin got an iPod nano. I don’t even have one of those things or know how to use one. What’s happening to this world? My aunt is having a baby in a few months maybe I’ll get the kid a laptop.
