Is it Friday yet? Seriously. I am already sick of this job, why couldn’t I have gotten an internship somewhere cool where I could be outside all day instead of in front of a stupid PC?
Okay so I’ve been reading a lot about how people hate the DRM setup in Vista. I would love to agree but… what the heck does it mean??
Some people are saying they can’t play videos they payed for on Netflix, can’t record American Gladiators, and can’t play their video games fast enough.
I went to Wikipedia to try to find out more and my head is still spinning.
Apparently, for most media types in Vista you have to own the rights to play them. I guess this is a good thing? I guess it’s good if DRM limits piracy (not really actually, if I can’t burn my copy of the Kim Kardashian video(s) so I can watch them on my flatscreen! BASTARDS!), but if this is why Vista runs so slow at work and my boss is always bitching about not getting work done on time then can I just get rid of it?

What an awesome weekend. Met up with some friends who I haven’t seen in forever, took a lot of shots, went to a cool show on Sunday and, as predicted, spent almost my entire two weeks pay in 2 days. Oh well, looks like I’ll be eating PBJ until next Friday.
I did decide to come in early this morning and try to tackle all of the issues I’m having with Vista so I can try to be more productive. I think I was able to figure out one of the big ones. Know those stupid “Windows needs your permission to continue” popup windows that come up every time you want to do something? Right after that scary 2 second black screen that makes you think the computer crashed all of a sudden? Like this one:

Apparently this is called User Account Control. It’s new in Vista. So now that I’ve finally figured out what it is, how do I turn it off??

I came in to start my PC, and as SOON as Vista started I got this (this isn’t the actual screenshot but it’s the same error message I got):

and I had to restart.
I ended up doing nothing yesterday but play on Youtube all day and read up on West Ham to get ready for tonight’s All-Star game, and now my boss needs that Excel spreadsheet by end of business today. Hopefully this POS PC decides to cooperate with me and I can actually focus on my work for a few hours, I dont want my boss screaming at me first thing on a Friday morning.
Does anybody know any free programs I can install to see if there is something slowing up and causing problems with my PC? A friend of mine mentioned something about spyware?

So this morning when I came in and my boss had another awesome task for me to spend 8 hours on. I basically sit here and copy and paste a buttload of data from a word document to an excel spreadhseet. But then, of course, after spending 30 minutes on it… I go up to click save to make sure I don’t lose any information in case my PC locks up (which has happened about 4 times this week), and I can’t even click anything on the top toolbar. Then, I can’t even click on the Windows icon on the bottom of the screen to restart.
I didn’t know what to do and didn’t want my boss thinking I’m an idiot so I had to power off the PC and power it back on, and pretty much start all over. Of course the files didn’t show up in the auto-recovery option so, a half an hour of work down the drain. Luckily this will only take me about 3 hours to complete, then I dick around on Facebook and Youtube all day.

2 weeks on the job and I may already be losing it. One of the things I need to do is organize the old programs that don’t work for the OSs we have on the office computers. Basically, I need to find what no longer works and get rid of it so we don’t fill up hard drive space with useless crap. Clearly, this job does not take all day, so I get it done and then fuck around on the internet. Unfortunately for me, I was hanging out here when my boss decided it was a good time to check up on me.
Farts will always be funny. There. I said it.
P.S. In all seriousness, if anyone knows how to permanently delete a file from the computer without first having to send it to the recycling bin, do let me know.

Josh and I got this gem from his mother. Oh moms…
HI!
I remembered I hadn’t said thank you for the wireless connection thingy that you also sent. Dad is very excited by that. Apparently we can also use it with the IPOD thingy too but we definitely haven’t figured that out at all!
Once again thanks for bringing us in to this brave new world!
Love you guys.
Mom

Looks normal, right? Look at your own keyboard… notice anything different? Okay, maybe you don’t. But try actually typing on this and it all becomes far too apparent. The whole of the bottom row of letters (Z, X, C…) is one too far to the right. The Z should be below and between A and S, not S and D.
You’re looking at a brand new Dell Vostro 1310, ordered the day after its released, and delivered on 30th .

Someone at Dell just got fired.

So that you don’t run into the same problem as me, if you have an HP Pavilion there’s a switch near the mouse-pad of the computer that has to be switched on for the internet to work. If you work for HP please take off this stupid switch, it serves no purpose so please credit me one hour of life spent figuring this crap out.
While I’m on the topic of laptop frustration I can’t figure out how to work the webcam, which has my girlfriend all upset, because she wants to have some sexy chat (That’s not true, but man can dream). I can’t transfer my files from my piece of shit desktop, send photos on AIM, and I can’t touch ten buttons without a Norton security alert. Norton is like an overprotective father that’s grounds their children for no reason and doesn’t let them ever hang out after school. Chill out Norton, life’s too short to block every website. I’m confident my Gmail is safe.

In less than a month I die. Okay, I graduate from college, but that’s the same thing, isn’t it? I keep having this reccurring dream where the Grim Reaper hands me my diploma. I’m about to become a real person, which I define as not being able to nap for two hours every day after you wake up at noon, and I don’t see myself leaving college with much besides an advanced knowledge of Family Guy quotations and MLA Citation formats. I’m scared shitless because I’m lazy though I’d like to be successful and to do that I need to get it on with technology.
I’m a complete chimp when it comes to computers. I was probably the last person in the universe to create an account on Facebook. My classes have changed since I was a freshman in that instead of writing papers we blog, art projects consist of designing websites, and we use online class collaboration tools instead of an old blackboard.
My first step towards educating myself technologically will be this blog. I’m still not sure how this separates me from a 13 year old girl writing in her pink diary about how Lenny Mishkin won’t ask her to the 7th grade dance, but I think I’ll have a lot to write about and maybe people will find it interesting.
